Open Game: A Visual Symphony

Client: Opera Steamboat

In this design tournament, I created a visual aria that invites audiences to engage with the art form. The “Welcome to the Madness” poster celebrates the inception of the organization, featuring founders Charlotte Perry and Portia Mansfield, the visionaries behind the Perry Mansfield performing arts school. Below them, the poster highlights vibrant activities like acting, dance, singing, and music.

Complementing this is the “Pagliacci” poster, which captures the opera’s emotional duality. It depicts the clown protagonist, one side smiling and the other weeping, flanked by his love interest and a rival, encapsulating themes of love and jealousy.

The campaign included social media ads that draw in new audiences, an extensive program more detailed than an intricate endgame analysis, and a website refresh as smooth as a knight’s move. Each design serves as a visual overture, hinting at the passion awaiting the audience – a true opening gambit for the senses. This campaign aims to checkmate skepticism and open hearts to the power of opera, proving that in the game of arts promotion, a well-designed bishop can be mightier than a sword!

During my time at Dazzle Jazz, I had the opportunity to develop a series of seasonal posters and digital screens aimed at capturing the dynamic energy and spirit of the venue. Think of it like designing the opening gambit for each season, visually enticing audiences to experience the world-class jazz Dazzle offers.

Imagine each poster as a unique chess piece on the board of Denver’s cultural scene. Some served as powerful rooks, announcing major events with bold strokes. Others played the role of nimble knights, promoting special performances with unexpected visual leaps. Seasonal designs acted as steady bishops, moving diagonally through the year with thematic consistency.

This collection of work stands as a testament to the power of visual storytelling in the realm of live music promotion. Like a well-executed chess strategy, these designs worked in concert to elevate Dazzle’s brand and entice jazz enthusiasts and newcomers alike to experience the world-class performances on offer.

This program for Opera Steamboat’s summer festival is a vibrant celebration of artistry and nature, beautifully captured on the front and back covers.
